“An Ode to Baishakh”

I am pleased to say that the last cover photo of the Star Weekend (published on April 10, 2015) had the perfect essence of our Bengali New Year celebration. Especially the red flower in the conch shell was just glorious. It was a splendid theme and I also like the photos used for the photo features showing our rich cultural heritage of Baishakh celebration. Stories with the photos were also very well written and thought provoking. However, I do believe that some of the shutter stories could use fewer photos so they can be seen properly. Small photos crowd the page and make it difficult to make out what they are about.

"Gear Up!"
The article "Gear Up," that was published on April 3, 2015, was extremely shocking. It highlights plight of women in Dhaka who are constantly harassed the moment they step out on the streets. Incidents like the ones the writer mentions had happened with one of my sisters. After reading this, my appeal to all the men is, please treat women with respect. Think of your own mothers and sisters and change your attitude towards all women. Let's come forward and stand against such deplorable acts.

"Rebuilding the Nation's Backbone"
The spotlight article published on April 3, 2015 was a pleasant read. The Writer brought up an important issue regarding our whole education system. It is a good thing that we are recovering the fallout gradually. Though it would take a long time for the full recovery, as said by the education minister, we hope that every educational institution would play due role for an earlier success in recovery. Besides, the opposition should not do anything again that would hamper the education in the country. They should let us be educated for the sake of the country.
