Munshiganj’s traditional craft of mat weaving at risk of being lost
Around a hundred families in Munshiganj are still keeping the tradition of mat, locally called pati, weaving alive. Each and every mat has a story woven in itself. And it appears as if these tales are at risk of vanishing forever.
Modern handlooms and factory-made mats are taking the place of this traditional craft.
At the same time, many weavers have changed their occupations due to rising manufacturing costs, lack of fair prices, and decrease in customer demand.
Watch the tale of these weavers in today's Inside Bangladesh.
