Wanderers, Azad risk relegation
Dhaka Wanderers Club and Azad SC increased their individual risks of being relegated from top-flight hockey as both suffered their eighth straight defeat from nine matches in the Green Delta Insurance Premier Division Hockey League at the Maulna Bhasani Hockey Stadium yesterday.
Dhaka Wanderers Club succumbed to a 1-2 defeat against Bangladesh Sporting Club, who went ahead in the 15th minute through a strike from Yavinder Singh. Mostafizur Rahman then levelled the margin in the 37th minute but Bangladesh SC's former national forward Iqbal Nadir Price scored the winner in the 39th minute to secure the win, which raised the outfit's points tally to eight points from eight matches and took them out of the red zone while the Wanderers were left to languish at the bottom of the table.
In the day's second match, Wari Club put an end to their four-match long losing streak by posting an easy 5-2 win over Azad SC, after taking a slim 1-0 lead in the first-half.
Billal Hossain stuck twice while Neputi Nitish, Suprojit and Nizam Uddin scored one apiece for Wari, who now have nine points from eight matches. Jisan and Debasish Roy reduced the margin but ultimately could not rescue Azad SC, who are also at the bottom of the table with one draw and eight defeats.
