Roman ousted in third round
Bangladesh's top archer Roman Sana was eliminated from the third round of the Archery World Cup as he suffered a 2-6 defeat to South Korea's Kim Woojin in the men's individual recurve event in Berlin, Germany yesterday.
Roman, ranked 43rd in the tournament, was the lone Bangladeshi archer to move into the third round after notching two straight victories in the first and second rounds. However, Roman was unable to negotiate past Woojin, who currently holds the top spot in world rankings but is ranked 11th in the competition.
Woojin took the first set with a perfect score of 30 out of 30 but Roman bounced back in the second set to level the points 2-2. In the third set though, the Bangladeshi archer picked up an extremely disappointing score of 25 as opposed to Woojin's 29, trailing 2-4 points before the Korean ensured his victory by scoring 28 against Roman's 25.
Roman will now return to Switzerland to undergo long-term training under the International Olympic Solidarity Committee scholarship.
