Ruman loses final battle
Bangladesh's top archer Ruman Sana had to remain satisfied with an individual silver medal and a team bronze medal on the final day of the Asia Cup: World Ranking Tournament (Stage-1) in Bangkok, Thailand yesterday.
Ruman had reached the final of men's individual recurve final with four straight wins following his first place finish in the qualification round. He had beaten opponents from India, Myanmar, Russia and Thailand to ensure his overall sixth final berth at the international level. However, the 23-year-old failed to put up much resistance against Kazakhstan's Abdullin Ilfat yesterday, losing the final in 6-2 sets.
Ruman lost the first two sets by 27-29, 27-28 points. The Bangladeshi archer staged a fightback in the third set, winning it by 29-28 points. But he disappointed in the fourth set, losing it by 24-29 points and thereby missing his chance to win a gold.
The young archer, however, won a team bronze as part of Bangladesh's men's recurve team along with Imdadul Haque Milon and Hakim Ahmed Rubel. They beat the Kazakhstan team in 5-4 sets to win the bronze medal in that event.
The Ruman and Diya Siddiqui pair, meanwhile, failed to bag the third medal for Bangladesh as they lost against China by 5-3 sets in the bronze-medal match of recurve mixed team.
The 12-member Bangladesh team will return from Thailand today, winning just a silver and a bronze medal from the competition.
