Dhaka off to winning start
Last edition's runners-up Dhaka Dynamites got off to a winning start in the sixth Bangladesh Premier League, defeating Rajshahi Kings by 83 runs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.
After Rajshahi had won the toss and elected to field, Dhaka's Afghani opener Hazratullah Zazai led from the front with a 41-ball 78 that featured four fours and an incredible seven sixes as Dhaka posted a formidable 189 for five. The other opener, West Indies' Sunil Narine, added a quickfire 38 off 28 with four fours and two sixes as Dhaka piled on 116 in 10.4 overs before Narine fell.
Kieron Pollard (3), Shakib Al Hasan (2), Nurul Hasan (1) all departed cheaply while Andre Russell played a cool 19-ball 21 before Shuvagata Hom provided a late surge with his 14-ball 38 that featured five fours and two sixes.
However, Rajshahi could never quite get going after the exchange and lost wickets at regular intervals as they were bundled out for 106.
Pakistani batsman Mohammad Hafeez top-scored with a 28-ball 29 and Englishman Laurie Evans (10) was the only other player who made it into double figures.
Mominul Haque scored eight off five while Soumya could get only four runs from three deliveries. Captain Mehedi Hasan Miraz fared the worst with the bat, getting one run off three balls.
