To celebrate the birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman next year, country’s sports fraternity will have year-long domestic and international events.
The sports and international subcommittee of national committee for national-wide celebration of the birth centenary of Bangabandhu held a meeting yesterday to prepare a sports calendar after different sports federations submitted their proposals in line with directives of youth and sports ministry.
“Different national federations and associations have placed their workplan and budget in a bid to celebrate the birth centenary of Bangabandhu. The federations and associations have planned 36 international events and 48 domestic events throughout the year starting from March 17, 2020 to March 21, 2011. The national committee of birth centenary celebration of Bangabandhu will approve the calendar,” state minister for youth and sports Jahid Ahsan Russel told reporters after the meeting at the International Mother Language Institute yesterday.
Out of 53 federations and associations, some 37 submitted their proposals and estimated budget to conduct programmes round the year. However, Russel informed the meeting that they have cut down the budget to half from the estimated one.
