24-member athletics squad named
Bangladesh Athletics Federation yesterday finalised a 24-member squad for the upcoming South Asian Games with the inclusion of nine new faces who showed potential in the just-concluded Summer Athletics Championships.
The fresh faces in the squad are: Saiful Islam Khan Sunny (200m sprint), Rokibul Hasan (100m sprint), Shariful Islam (400m and 4X100m relay), Sohel Rana (triple jump), Abdur Rouf (4X100m relay), Masud Khan (110m hurdles and 4X100m relay), Masud Rana (4X400m relay), Plaboni Haq (high jump) and Sharmin Akter Lota (long jump).
The BAF started the camp on July 15 at the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan (BKSP) with 26 athletes under the guidance of five coaches, but 11 athletes failed to make it to the final squad.
The BAF is also on the verge of signing up South African sprint and hurdles coach Godwin Odinukaeze, who is supposed to arrive in Dhaka by September 15.
The 13th SA Games will be held in Nepal in December this year.
