Opener Zawad Abrar struck an unbeaten 130 after pacer Al Fahad claimed six wickets as Bangladesh Under-19 cricket team cruised to a resounding nine-wicket win over hosts Sri Lanka in the second of the six-match Youth ODI series in Colombo on Monday.

Chasing a modest target of 212, Bangladesh lost opener Kalam Siddiki Aleen early for five, but Zawad and captain Azizul Hakim Tamim forged a record-breaking 180-run stand for the second wicket to guide the visitors to 215-1 in just 34.3 overs, and levelling the series 1-1.

Zawad's 106-ball knock featured 14 fours and six sixes, while Tamim remained unbeaten on 69 off 89 balls. Their partnership set a new record for Bangladesh Under-19 for the second wicket, surpassing the previous best of 179 between Anamul Haque and Liton Das against Pakistan during the 2012 ICC U-19 World Cup in Australia.

Earlier, Sri Lanka, who opted to bat after winning the toss, suffered a late collapse. From a promising 183-4, they lost their last six wickets for just 28 runs and were bowled out for 211.

Al Fahad spearheaded the bowling attack with figures of 6-44, becoming only the third Bangladesh U-19 bowler to claim six wickets in a Youth ODI, following in the footsteps of Sanjit Saha and Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby. Fellow pacer Iqbal Hasan Emon chipped in with two wickets.

For Sri Lanka, Chamika Heenatigala top-scored with 51, while Denura Damsith contributed 47.

Bangladesh had earlier lost the series opener by 98 runs at the same venue on Saturday.

The third match of the series is scheduled for Wednesday at the Colts Cricket Club Ground in Colombo.
