‘Want to win as many matches as possible’
Before the team's scheduled departure for Oman today, Bangladesh captain Mahmudullah Riyad said that his team's aim would be to win as many matches as possible in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
There was uncertainty regarding Bangladesh team's departure to Oman for their upcoming World Cup preparation camp and qualifying matches after Cyclone Shaheen bore down on Oman on Sunday. The Tigers' flight was set to depart at 10:45 PM and BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury confirmed that everything was on schedule for the team to depart on Sunday night.
"We are going, so please pray for us. As a nation it is a great chance for us to do well at a World Cup. The way we've played the last few series, if we can play like that, something good might happen. We will try to overcome the qualifying stage by playing well and then going into the main phase," Riyad told the media before their departure.
Bangladesh are yet to win a match in the main phase of the T20 World Cup. "We want to win as many matches as possible. Our record in T2o World Cup is not good and we want to break the barrier," Riyad concluded.
Bangladesh will spend a day in room quarantine in Muscat before starting their training on October 5 in Oman, after which the Tigers will travel to Dubai to take part in two official practice games on October 12 and 14 against Sri Lanka and Ireland respectively. Mahmudullah Riyad and his troop will then return to Oman on October 15 to participate in the qualifier stage and will face Scotland in their first qualifier game on October 17.
