Prime Minister to take all responsibility if BCB organises World Cup: Hassan
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been mulling the possibilities of hosting ICC events in the forthcoming 2024-2031 ICC Cycle for a while now.
And the board, after its 12th and final meeting of this term at the BCB management office in Mirpur today, informed that it has already gotten the approval from the government of Bangladesh regarding hosting any of the World Cups -- T20 or ODI -- during the upcoming ICC cycle.
"We needed guarantee or approval letters from different ministries in order to be able to host any of the ICC events. And we are very happy to announce that we have already gotten our first approval letter and that too from Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The Premier herself signed the letter and guaranteed that the Bangladesh government will take responsibility for all the activities regarding hosting any World Cups [in the upcoming ICC Cycle of 2024-2031]," said BCB president Nazmul Hassan after the meeting today.
As per the 2024-2031 ICC Cycle, there are two Men's ODI World Cup -- in 2027 and 2031 -- four T20 Men's World Cup -- in 2024, 2026, 2028 and 2030 -- and two Champions Trophy -- in 2025 and 2029.
"As you know, we have already shown interest in hosting the ICC Champions Trophy solely as we have the required number of stadiums to host this event. For hosting rights of the T20 World Cup, we have applied jointly with Sri Lanka as we do not have the required number of stadiums for that event and hence we needed another hosting nation. Meanwhile, for hosting rights of the ODI World Cup, we have applied jointly with Sri Lanka and Pakistan," informed Hassan.
