MITHUN'S ODI HANGOVER
It was a debut that Mohammad Mithun would surely want to forget because of the manner of the right-hander's dismissal for a a duck against Zimbabwe on the first day at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur yesterday.
The 27-year-old came in with the Tigers struggling on 16 for two and his recent fine run in the ODI format raised hopes that Mithun would act sensibly.
But facing just his fourth delivery, a full and wide one from pacer Donald Tiripano, he jammed his bat into the ground much like an ODI batsman would to run the ball down to third man for a single. Well, it wasn't ODI cricket and there was a slip cordon waiting for the edge which flew at comfortable height to second slip.
Despite creating a Bangladesh record playing the most first-class matches -- 88 -- before earning a Test cap, Mithun utilised the wrong kind of experience when it mattered.
