Chandika asked to quit after Bangladesh series
Sri Lanka head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe has been asked to step down from his role after the conclusion of the ODI series against Bangladesh, a PTI report claimed.
According to the report, SLC Secretary Mohan de Silva has written to Hathurusinghe asking him to resign. Sri Lanka finished sixth in the ten-team table at the World Cup after clinching three wins in nine matches. In the run up to the World Cup, the Lankans lost 13 out of 20 matches with Chandika at the helm.
As par his contract, Hathurusinghe wanted to continue until the end of next year. He took over the role of Sri Lanka's head coach in December 2017 after resigning from the head coach role of Bangladesh national team.
PTI report also said that it had learned from sources that Chandika was expected to return to coaching Bangladesh. Sri Lanka’s Sports minister Harin Fernando had earlier reportedly ordered the sacking of the national cricket coach after a lacklustre World Cup.
