Young Tigers thump UAE
While the Bangladesh national team are struggling against Afghanistan in their one-off Test in Chattogram, the young Tigers made a flying start to their Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Under-19s Asia Cup campaign yesterday. Bangladesh Under-19 registered a commanding six-wicket victory over UAE Under-19 at the FTZ Sports Complex (BOI) in Katunayake, Sri Lanka.
In a game reduced to 45 overs per side because of rain, opener Tanzid Hasan's quickfire 27-ball 45 -- which saw three boundaries and four maximums -- combined with a 33-ball 30 from Parvez Hossain and an unbeaten 40-ball 27 from Mahmudul Hasan Joy helped the young Tigers eclipse UAE's below-par 127 with 23.3 overs to spare.
Earlier, after electing to field, Bangladesh bundled out UAE in just 28 overs. Left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan was the pick of the bowlers for Bangladesh, returning figures of three for 25 in seven overs. A team high of 58 came from UAE batsman Osama Hassan, while only one other batsman could get into double figures.
