Delwar's hattrick adds spice
The fifth round of the National Cricket League drew to a mild close after yesterday's fourth day yielded two draws of contrasting natures. Two highlights were Rajshahi Division medium-pacer Delwar Hossain bagging a hattrick and teammate Sunzamul Islam reaching 250 first-class wickets after finishing with 11 for the match.
While the Tier-1 game between Rajshahi and Rangpur Division at the Rangpur Cricket Garden Stadium ended in a fully fleshed out stalemate, the rain-affected Tier-2 match between Sylhet Division and Chattogram Division in Cox's Bazar finally saw some play yesterday with 13 overs allowing Sylhet to reach 26 for one. However, the Tier-1 game between Barishal Division and Khulna Division in Barishal was abandoned without a ball bowled.
After starting the day on 20 for one in their second innings and with a lead of 108, Rangpur reached lunch on 173 for five. One over after resumption, the 36th of the innings, Delwar dismissed Naeem Islam, Sajedul Islam and Sanjit Saha in successive deliveries, with the flurry also bringing about Rangpur's declaration on 186 for eight.
Chasing 275, Rajshahi reached 133 for two when stumps were drawn and retained their hold on the top spot of Tier-1. On Wednesday, Dhaka Division took top spot in Tier-2 by beating Dhaka Metro by an innings and 161 runs.
