Ex-minister charge-sheeted

Former state minister for education ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon was charge sheeted in a case filed on charge of snatching motorbike, mobile phone and cash during his tenure in 2007. It was submitted to the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Mahbubur Rahman in presence of the 19 accused including Milon. According to the case statement, Milon among the 19 beat up and mugged Alamgir Hossain Patwari, the then president of Karaiya union unit Jubo League on January 5 in 2007. They also demanded Tk 5 lakh as illegal toll from him. On April 24 in 2010, a case was filed with Kachua police station in this connection.


Betel leaf garden gutted

A fire destroyed betel leaves on two bighas at Raigram village in Kaliganj upazila yesterday. Owned by Abdur Rahim and Shahidul Islam of Dulalmundia village, the betel leaves were gutted at 4:30pm. On information, Kaliganj and Kotchandpur fire service teams rushed in and doused the blaze. The reason behind the fire could not be known immediately, said Shahidul. The loss caused by the flame could go up to Tk 3 lakh, said Kaliganj fire station officer Feroz Hossain. 


Sugarcane burnt to ashes

Sugarcane on six bighas was destroyed in a fire in Begumpur union under Sadar upazila on Tuesday. Police said the fire originated from a sugarcane field of Darshana Carew and Company in the union and soon engulfed the adjoining fields. On information, a fire fighting team from Chuadanga fire service station rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze with the help of locals. Deputy general manger of the farm Abdul Kuddus claimed that the loss caused by the fire could go up to Tk 3.5lakh. The reason behind the fire could not be known immediately, he said.
