Sir John Wilson School encourages reading habits
Keeping the young learners in mind, Sir John Wilson School celebrated 'Book Week', an annual programme, from November 16 till 20. As always, the week was observed to encourage students towards buying and reading books.
Childhood is the best time for a person's mental development, and reading is the best exercise for mental stimulation, vocabulary expansion and memory enhancement. It helps to strengthen analytical skills, improve writing skills and concentration besides enriching knowledge.
During the 'Book Week', teachers of the school engaged the students in different activities like in-class reading of their favourite books, writing biographies of their favourite writers, recreating their favourite stories, performing playlets, making motivational posters to promote reading and so on. Throughout the week a book fair was also held at the school premises, from where the students could buy their favourite books. Teachers from different departments took the students to visit the book fair and recommended books to them of various genres. Renowned and promising writers of this country also visited the school and shared their experiences of writing and reading books with the students. The Early Years and Middle Section students took part in storytelling and recitation, dressed up as their favourite characters from books, wrote stories/compositions in both Bangla and English, drew their favourite characters as well as made or illustrated books. The teachers and parents of Early Years and Middle Section joined the weeklong celebration by participating in Story Telling sessions, where they read stories to the students. Parents particularly enjoyed sharing their favourite childhood stories with the students.
Sir John Wilson School promotes learning not only through in-class lessons but also through extracurricular activities. 'Book Week' is one of the endeavours to enlighten the students.
