2016's Most Successful Bengali Films

This year, about 50 films were released. Among them, only a few films were commercially successful. Some were even showcased internationally and got critically acclaimed. Here are the 10 most commercially and critically successful films of the year:

Aynabaji

Directed by Amitabh Reza Chowdhury, 'Aynabaji' induced a lot of buzz among the audience. The film starred the likes of Chanchal Chowdhury, Nabila, Partha Barua, and Gousul Alam Shaon. After a long time, the industry has seen so much buzz about a movie, and the hype is still alive up to this point in time. Besides that, it was showcased in the Marché du Film section of the Cannes film festival. It has also been screened in the USA and the UK.

Oggatonama

In Taukir Ahmed's 'Oggatonama' has been critically acclaimed internationally. Even though it did not do that well at the box office, 'Oggatonama' gained the Jury's mention award in Italy's Gulf of Naple's Independent Film Festival.  Like Aynabaji, this film was also featured in the Marché du Film section of the Cannes film festival. The film's subject is human trafficking and it stars Mosharraf Karim, Shahiduzzaman Selim, Nipun, Abul Hayat, Fazlur Rahman Babu among others. 

Shikari

A joint venture from Dhaka and Kolkata, Shakib Khan's 'Shikari' was the most commercially successful film of the year. The film also starred Kolkata's Srabonti and was directed by Joydeb Mukherjee. 

Rokto

'Rokto' is yet another joint venture by Dhaka and Kolkata. Pori Moni has been talked about a lot in this film. Starring opposite her in the film was Roshan. Even if Rokto was mediocre in the box office, it had a lot of coverage as Pori Moni was at the center of attention. Her YouTube video, “Dana Kata Pori” crossed one Lakh views in just an hour.

Badshah

Another joint venture by Dhaka and Kolkata, 'Badshah' stars Kolkata's Jeet and our very own Nusrat Faria. The film was directed by Baba Yadav. There was a lot of hype for the film, but it did not do well in Kolkata as it did in Bangladesh.
