The government is planning to impose a ceiling on purchase of personal cars against each family, road transport and bridges minister said in the parliament today.

Replying to lawmakers’ queries, Minister Obaidul Quader today said the provision is there in the draft of Road Transport Law-2016.

The draft is now being finalised to update the Motor Vehicle Ordinance, 1983.

According to the minister, the capital, Dhaka, currently has 21,771 public transports with route permits.

Replying to another query, the minister said some 238 air-conditioned buses under Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) are plying 52 routes.

He said initiatives are underway to import 100 air-conditioned buses for BRTC inter-district service under the Indian Line of Credit.
