Badal, Ambia among 7 sacked from Inu’s JSD
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal, led by Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, today dismissed seven leaders from the party after they broke up and formed a separate faction.
They are-- former vice president Indu Nandan Dutta, joint general secretary Nazmul Haque Prodhan, organising secretaries Manjur Ahmed Manju, Karim Sikder, Sharif Nurul Ambia, Moinuddin Khan Badal and Mustaque Hossain.
The decision was taken at the fourth general meeting at the party’s central office with Hasanul Haq Inu in the chair, according to a press release floated by the party this evening.
"The party issued a show-cause letter to those leaders but they did not issue any reply in last six months. On the other hand they opened a separate central office at Topkhana Road which was in total violation of the party’s charter. For that reason the party has taken the decision," Shirin Akhter, general secretary of the JSD-Inu, told The Daily Star.
However, the party was split into two factions as several senior leaders walked out of its national council and later announced formation of a new committee.
The new faction, led by Sharif Nurul Ambia, general secretary of the party's immediate past committee, claimed they boycotted the council protesting election of leaders in an “undemocratic way”.
Ambia is now the president of the new faction while lawmakers Nazmul Haque Prodhan and Moinuddin Khan Badal were made the general secretary and executive president. The announcement came at a press conference at the Jatiya Press Club on March 12.
The JSD-Inu is a component of the ruling Awami League-led 14-party grand alliance. Ambia claimed that four out of the party's six lawmakers are with the new faction.
The JSD was earlier spilt in 2002 when some of its leaders led by ASM Abdur Rob formed a new party -- Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD-Rob).
