Arrest warrant issued against Khaleda in Narail

A Narail court today issued an arrest warrant against BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia for her remarks on the number of martyrs during the Liberation War of 1971.

The court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Jahidul Azad issued the arrest warrant as she did not appear before it despite summons issued by the court against her.

On July 25, the court summoned Khaleda to appear before it today, reports a Narail correspondent.

Earlier, Rayhan Faruki Imam of Chapail village in Naragati upazila filed the case with the court on December 24, 2015, over Khaleda’s controversial comments about the number of martyrs during the Liberation War.

Addressing a discussion in Dhaka on December 21 last year, the BNP chairperson said that there was a controversy over the actual number of martyrs during the country’s Liberation War.

“There is still a controversy about the exact number of people martyred in the Liberation War,” Khaleda said adding that different books and documents show different numbers in this regards.
