Shrimp cultivator abducted in Satkhira for ransom
A shrimp cultivator was allegedly abducted by criminals on Friday night while he was returning home from his shrimp enclosure at Shitalpur village in Assassuni upazila.
The criminals demanded Tk10, 00, 000 as ransom for his release, family sources said.
Victim SM Mesbah Uddin is son of Rais Uddin of Puraton Satkhira in the district town.
Sources said, Mesbah went to his shrimp enclosure by his motorbike at about 3:00 pm and left for home at about 6:00 pm.
The criminals intercepted him on his way, confined him to a secret place, victim's wife Jesmin Akhtar alleged.
She alleged that the criminals demanded Tk10, 00,000 over cell phone for her husband's release at about 5:00 am yesterday.
They are also threatening her with dire consequences for non-compliance to their demand, she alleged.
Meanwhile, a shrimp trader was killed in a road accident near at Chiledanga intersection on Satkhira-Assassuni road in the same upazila yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Zahangir Alam, 42, son of Mominul Islam Sardar of Chapra village.
Quoting local people police said, the victim was returning home from Motsokati fish market in the same upazila after selling shrimp by a rickshaw van.
When the rickshaw van reached Chiledanga intersection, a bus hit the rickshaw van from behind, leaving Zahangir dead on the spot at about 10:30 am.
