Okapia Fusion: Forerunner of the newest player
Okapia. When I looked up in a dictionary, all I could find was 'an African mammal, closely related to and resembling the giraffe, but smaller and with a much shorter neck.' So why did I look it up? It's because I have a handset in my hand which has the very same name inscribed in its back. Okapia is actually a Bangladesh based new conglomerate that intends to heat up the smartphone market. And no matter whatever the reason is for the naming, we are mostly interested in what the device bearing the name has to offer. So without further ado, let's move on to the review.
What we have here today is the flagship device of Okapia: Fusion. Starting with the form factor: we have one word- WoW! Why? Cause it has a really slim figure and the device is extremely light weighted. It's really great to hold as well- gives you a premium feel. IPS screen, matt cover (a finger print magnet!) and the beveled metal ring that encircle the body- this entire combo is outstanding. Interestingly it has uncanny resemblance with Samsung Galaxy SII- which we totally don't mind.
Now comes the screen: 4.7'' diagonally and IPS HD capacitive. So basically that's 720p in 4.7 inch display resulting near about the same amount of pixels per inch as an iPhone 5S. The capacitive display responded very well almost all the time. Although we experienced some glitches while using some third party applications, we think it had nothing to do with the phone. So moving around with this device is hopefully going to be a stress-free experience.
This phone is powered by a 1.2GHz Quad Core Qualcomm processor. Smooth enough for every day use. Coupled with a 1gig RAM, the phone was able to perform evenly. But some apps stuttered to start up- an issue commonly found in all the phones with 1 gig RAM. Personally, I think in the era of 64bit processors and 4GB RAMs- every phone should be equipped with at least 2 gigs of RAM. The GPU which is an Adreno 305 is basically a midrange one. Delivers the right amount of punch you need to run mediocre games in the phone. The chip is a bit more efficient than the counterparts that we used in other handsets (running of Mali 400 processors). Nenamark2 rated 38.8 frames per second (FPS). The closest score that we can compare with is Galaxy Grand.
The OS of the phone is Android Jelly Bean 4.3. Being a new phone in the market we expected it to be a 4.4 Kitkat. The OS is the vanilla version of jelly bean meaning lean and clean and no extra skin. The added skin generally tends to bog up the RAM so it a great relief not seeing one. Oh did I forget to mention, it comes preloaded with quite a few applications including skype, ridmik keyboard (for bangle typing), airdroid, SHAREit, batteryguru, flashlight etc. And couple of games to keep you entertained too i.e. Angry Bird, temple run, speed moto etc.
A 12 Megapixel camera with LED flash works as the primary snapper of the device. The camera does not have any quick-shoot button so it takes a while to open the camera from the look screen. The quality of the pictures is really good. Better than the competition- that's for sure. The front 2MP camera is decent- good enough for selfies.
The battery is probably the only thing of this phone that we want to replace. It houses a 1750 mAh battery- which for a phone is not at all adequate. With a full charge we could barely last 18 hours. In these 18 hours we used Wi-Fi for an hour and half & 2 hours of audio in loud speaker. Made only 4 calls each lasting less than 5 minutes. The charger that comes with it is able to bring back the dead phone to full life in near about hours. The first 50% of the battery gets charged in just half an hour- a thing which we really liked.
Competition: Okapia's Fusion is a mid range phone considering its specs. The competition of this particular model is: Walton Primo R3 Walton Primo X1, Walton Primo RX (both are discontinued), Symphony W150, Symphony Xplore H100, Moto G and many more.

FINAL THOUGHTS
The Okapia Fusion is a great phone – it's a solidly built device with a great IPS display. The phone is really great to hold and quite brilliant to showoff and move around. The slim body and light weight is extremely pocket-friendly.
Unfortunately the battery life and occasional stuttering is kind of a letdown. Whatever the case is- Okapia's is still in the fight. So, Walton and Symphony- Watch Out!
