Residents block Cox’s Bazar road for 4 hrs

Several hundred people, under the banner of "Inhabitants of Saint Martin's," staged a blockade at the Dolphin Point in Cox's Bazar's Kolatoli area for four hours till 4:00pm yesterday, causing suffering for dwellers and tourists in the town.

They blocked the road demanding the lifting of restrictions on tourism and overnight stays of the tourists on the island.

Later, with the assurance of the district administration, the agitators temporarily suspended their protest programme.

Md Yamin Hossain, additional deputy commissioner of Cox's Bazar told the agitators that their logical demands will be met.

"We have taken the issue to the high officials and are expecting a resolution in this regard," he told the protesters.

Abdul Malek, a representative of the protesters, said, "Considering the suffering of tourists, we have suspended the movement. However, we will not return until our demands are met."

Due to their movement, a massive gridlock took place around the four-kilometre stretch on Cox's Bazar-Chattogram highway.
