Noakhali BNP leader arrested over derogatory remark on PM
A BNP leader from Noakhali's Senbagh, who made defamatory remarks about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was detained Saturday night.
Abdur Rahman, chairman of the Chhatarpaiya Union Parishad, was on the run since he made those remarks at a local meeting of Swechhasebak Dal on Thursday evening.
Senbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Iqbal Patwari said Abdur Rahman, also BNP's joint general secretary of Senbagh upazila unit, was detained from a hotel in Dhaka's Paltan area.
The OC said police had been trying to nab the BNP leader since a video clip of the meeting went viral on social media.
Earlier, police detained three people, including Abdur Rahman's son, Nazmul Hasan Hridoy.
A case under the Digital Security Act was being prepared to be filed against the BNP leader, said the Senbagh OC.
