“Tk 3.18 lakh embezzlement”: 5 college students want case to be withdrawn
Five students of Savar Govt College today demanded immediate withdrawal of a case filed against them for allegedly embezzling Tk 3.18 lakh from 40 students by forging receipts of exam fees.
According to the case, the accused promised examinees of completing the signing-up process for honors first and second-year tests under National University at a lower cost.
Speaking at the press conference at Savar Press Club this afternoon, the five students and their parents alleged that the case was filed with an intention to harass them by excluding those who were the real culprits, reports our Savar correspondent.
On October 25, Savar government college teachers' council secretary Md Mahbubur Rahman filed the case with Savar Model Police Station accusing the five students.
The accused students are Simanto Joy Pal, 21, first-year student of zoology department, Ridwanul Islam, 20, second-year student of Social Welfare, Abir Saha, 21, and Suchana Akhter Mim, 21 of second-year student of management department, and Md Imran Ali, 20, 1st-year student (pass course).
Mobile banking service TeleCash, and Addie Soft, a software developer for managing college data, have also been made accused in the case.
At the press conference, Sajib Pal, father of Simnata Joy Pal, alleged that Addie Soft Service Operator Golam Rabbani and TeleCash officer Jasim Mia basically assured the students that they would complete the process at a lower cost. But the college authorities have made the students accused in the case instead of excluding them.
Gobinda Saha, father of another student Abir Sahar and other accused students made the same allegation at the press conference.
College Principal Prof Md Imrul Hasan told The Daily Star, "When one of the receipts of the fees seemed suspicious to us, the teachers concerned verified it and found it to be fake. Later, we started investigating the matter and found more fake receipts."
The principal said they came to know that a group of college students took money from others and gave them fake receipts. Later, in consultation with the committee, a case was filed against the five students.
When contacted, Addie Soft Service Operator Golam Rabbani said, "The students are basically now adding my name to save them. I don't really know anything about it."
When asked about this, TeleCash Zonal Manager Ismail Hossain said they are looking into the matter.
Sajal Khan, sub-inspector of Savar Model Police Station said four of the accused secured bail from the High Court.
The investigation is underway to find out if anyone from TeleCash and Addie Soft is involved, said SI Sajal, also, investigation officer of the case.
