Tweets against surrogacy were not an attack on Priyanka: Taslima Nasrin
Author Taslima Nasreen said her recent tweets flaying surrogacy as exploitative of poor women, who lend their wombs, was not designed as an attack on Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra and her husband Nick Jonas.
"My surrogacy tweets are about my different opinions on surrogacy. Nothing to do with Priyanka-Nick. I love the couple," Taslima said on her Twitter post, reports our New Delhi correspondent.
Earlier, Taslima had tweeted, "I won't accept surrogacy until rich women become surrogate moms. I won't accept burqa until men wear it out of love. I won't accept prostitution until male prostitution (sic) are built and men wait for female customers. Otherwise, surrogacy, burqa, prostitution are just exploitation of women and the poor."
Taslima's views on the issue aired a day after Priyanka and Nick announced on January 21 the arrival of their baby via surrogacy, had kicked up a row on the microblogging site and divided the Twitterati with some agreeing with her but many saying her remarks were insensitive and that the decision to opt for adoption or surrogacy is a couple's choice.
Following the uproar on Twitter Taslima, through her latest series of tweets, clarified that her comments had nothing to do with Priyanka and Nick adopting a child through surrogacy and dropped the old tweets made to Priyanka and Nick to prove that she has nothing the couple.a
