One beaten to death in city by mob

An alleged burglar was beaten to death by a mob at Mohammadpur in the capital yesterday during an attempted burglary.
Earlier on Wednesday, severed body of an unidentified male was found on the rail tracks near Cantonment rail station.
At Mohammadpur, the alleged burglar, a youth aged around 24 years, succumbed to his injuries at around 12:30pm following mob beatings as he broke in a house on Humayun Road, said police.
As the members of the household screamed out for help after sensing burglary, a mob caught up with the fleeing burglar and beat him up severely -- leaving him dead on the spot, said witnesses.
Police recovered the body afterwards and sent it to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy.
The severed body of the unidentified male was recovered by Railway Police from rail tracks near Cantonment rail station at around 10:30pm on Wednesday.

The victim, wearing black pants and a striped shirt, had been strangled to death before his body got severed into two pieces by a train, said morgue sources.
Police inquest report mentioned that signs of neck injuries cut marks on the head were found on the body. A towel was also found wrapped around the right leg.
Police suspect that criminals dropped the body on the rail tracks after killing the victim somewhere else.
Meanwhile, at Matuail of Jatrabari, a housewife was allegedly killed yesterday by her husband following a brawl over an illicit affair.
The victim, Shirin Akhter Shilpi, 40, was found face down on the floor of the bedroom with a scarf tied to her throat.
Her husband, Hashmat Ullah, has been absconding since her relatives found her body.
Shilpi's brother Mithu filed a murder case with Jatrabari Police Station accusing Shilpi's husband.
The victim's body has been sent to Sir Salimullah Medical College for an autopsy.
