55-year-old sent to jail for raping 8-year-old girl in Savar

A Dhaka court today sent a 55-year-old man to jail on charge of raping an eight-year-old girl in Savar's Aichanodda.

The accused Shahjahan Mia, a rickshaw puller by profession, was arrested by police today, Saiful Islam inspector (investigation) of Savar Model police station told The Daily Star this evening.

He was produced before a Dhaka court this noon and gave a confessional statement there. The court sent him to jail soon after, he added.

The inspector said on Tuesday evening, Shahjahan took the girl to his rented room luring her with some chocolates and raped her when the victim's parents were outside the house.

The victim's father filed a case with the police station over the rape on Wednesday evening , Saiful Islam added.
