Chattogram DoE fines 5 companies, one man

The Department of Environment (DoE) in Chattogram today fined one person and five companies, including two shipbreaking yards, a total of Tk 22.60 lakh for violating its conditions.

The fine was imposed after a hearing at the DoE office located in Khulsi of the port city, reports our Chattogram correspondent.

Of the five companies, Bengal Shoe was fined Tk 10 lakh, RA Shipbreaking Tk 1 lakh, Janani Brick Tk 2 lakh and SL Ship Re-processing Industry Limited Tk 60,000 for not renewing their environmental clearances, said Mohammad Moazzom Hossain, director of the Chattogram DoE.

Besides, Diamond Cement was fined Tk two lakh for pollution and one Aman Ullah was fined Tk 7 lakh for cutting hill in Cox's Bazar Islampur area without prior permission from the DoE, he added.
