Woman who visited Dhaka hospital tests positive for Covid-19 in Shariatpur
A 30-year-old woman in Shariatpur has tested positive for coronavirus, bringing the district's confirmed cases to seven.
She had just been attending to her husband, who was admitted to a hospital in Dhaka, before returning to Shariatpur.
News of her result came after the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) confirmed the matter last night, Dr Shekh Mohammad Mostafa, Damudya upazila health and family planning officer, said.
The woman had been admitted to Damudya Upazila Health Complex on April 13 with headache and suddenly lost consciousness. She was kept in the hospital ward for two days before being discharged on April 15, the official said.
"The 30-year-old woman returned to her village in Damudya from a Dhaka hospital one week ago. She accompanied her husband, who was suffering from liver problems at the time," he said.
"She came to Damudya Upazila Health Complex on April 13 with headache and suddenly lost consciousness. She was kept at the hospital's isolation unit then. Later, she went home on April 15," the official said.
"We collected her sample and sent it to the icddr,b on April 15, and she tested positive," Dr Mostafa said.
"The patient will undergo treatment at home as her condition is better and will be admitted to an isolation unit if needed," he added.
Meanwhile, local administration declared some 40 houses located in Bishakuri village in Damudya upazila locked down in connection with the confirmed case, Murtuza Al-Mueed, upazila nirbahi officer said.
