Full-fledged rail service of Dhaka to northern region yet to be restored
Full-fledged rail service of Dhaka with northern and southern districts is yet to be restored due to repair work on the rail lines damaged during accident of Rangpur Express in Sirajganj yesterday.
The rail communication on the route resumed partially last night, reports our Pabna correspondent.
The rail authority has decided to run the service partially keeping in mind the public sufferings, said Al Shattah Masudur Rahman, chief engineer of Bangladesh Railway (West Zone).
Broad-gauge trains are plying through alternative routes but metre-gauge intercity trains -- Rangpur Express, Lalmoni Express and Kurigram Express -- cannot ply due to damaged lines.
Masudur said, “We don’t know how much time it (repair work) will take. We are trying our best to complete the work as soon as possible”.
Meanwhile, Railways Minister Nurul Islam Sujan had visited the spot where the Rangpur Express derailed and caught fire in Ullahpara upazila of Sirajganj.
Yesterday, nine compartments of the intercity train, including its engine and power car, derailed at the Ullapara Railway Station and a fire broke out in three of its compartments due to accident leaving eight people injured.
