Mahmud new foreign minister
Forty-five days into forming the new cabinet, AH Mahmud Ali has been made foreign minister.
Meanwhile, Col (retd) Mohammad Najrul Islam has been inducted into the cabinet as a state minister and given the portfolio of water resources ministry.
Two separate gazette notifications will be issued in this regard today or tomorrow, sources at the cabinet said.
Earlier, Mahmud and Najrul were sworn in as ministers at Bangabhaban at noon.
President Abdul Hamid administered them the oath in presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, members of her cabinet and senior civil and military officials.
With the two new ministers, the existing cabinet has 30 full ministers, excluding the PM, 18 state ministers and two deputy ministers.
Mahmud, who served as foreign minister in the polls-time government led by Hasina, was elected from Dinajpur-4 (Chirirbandar-Khansama) on January 16 re-polls, 11 days after the 10th parliamentary election.
He was also inducted into Hasina's previous cabinet as relief and disaster management minister in September 2012.
Col (retd) Mohammad Najrul Islam has been elected from Narsingdi-1 in January 5 national polls.
Earlier on January 12, AL President Sheikh Hasina formed the 47-member cabinet with lawmakers from four other parties -- Jatiya Party, Workers Party, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal and Jatiya Party-Manju -- besides those from her party.
