Killers moving freely, victim’s family implicated in false trafficking case

Killers are moving freely while the family members of slain union parishad (UP) member Md Shawkat Hossain alias Jasim were falsely implicated in a human trafficking case.

The victim’s college going daughter Zidny Akter said this at a press conference at Brahmanbaria Press Club in the town yesterday.

Zidny along with her only brother, mother, grandmother and other family members were present at the conference.

They also demanded capital punishment of the killers of Jasim, a member of Mehari UP.

Zidny in written statement at the press conference said her father was hacked to death for protesting illegal drug trade at their village in Kasba upazila on July 5.

Mehari union unit Awami League (AL) President Mossarraf Hossain Murshed and his gang are involved with the drug trade, she alleged.

Over a month into the killing, police are yet to arrest the killers while they are moving freely, said Zidny.

Instead, the killers implicated their three family members in a false case, she said.

On the night of July 5, the UP member went out of home after receiving a phone call. Police rescued injured Jasim from a classroom of Jamuna Government Primary School in a pool of blood and he was sent to Cumilla Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

After the incident, Zidny released a video clip from her Facebook page which shows that before his death, Jasim revealed the names of the killers including AL leader Murshed. The video clip later went viral on Facebook.

Md Alauddin, younger brother of the deceased, filed a case, accusing 18 people including Murshed, said Zidny.
