Five cases of rape surface
An intellectually-challenged woman was allegedly kept hostage for a day and raped by her neighbour at Chotto Changuir village in Bogura’s Nandigram upazila.
She was rescued by locals on Saturday and the accused has been on the run since, said Shawkat Kabir, officer-in-charge of Nandigram Police Station.
Besides, a case was filed over the rape of a six-year old in Bogura yesterday. The victim’s mother filed the case with Shajahanpur Police Station, accusing a friend of the victim’s father of raping the child on June 8.
The accused Duala Miah, 40, is a resident of Bihigram Purbopara area in Shajahanpur upazila.
In a separate incident in the district’s Gabtali upazila, a 25-year old man was arrested for raping a seven-year boy last Friday. Police arrested the accused, Md Shahin, a day after a case was filed by the victim’s father over the rape.
Elsewhere in Jhalakathi, a 14-year-old was detained by police for questioning over the rape of an 18-year-old girl. The victim was allegedly raped in Nalchity upazila on Thursday.
The suspect is a student of class eight, said Shakhawat Hossain, OC of Nalchity Police Station.
In Cox’s Bazar, police yesterday arrested a man on charge of attempting to rape a teenage girl at Joirkatha village in Moheshkhali upazila.
The arrestee is Kalachand, 25, a resident of the same village.
