Road accidents kill 5, injure 23
Five people were killed and 23 others injured in road accidents in four districts in the last two days, according to reports from our correspondents.
In Pabna, two people were killed and five others injured as a truck hit a human haulier on Dhaka-Pabna highway in Birahimpur area of Sujanagar upazila on Monday night.
Shafikul Islam, 35, from Sujanagar; and Abdul Hamid Polan, 45, from Santhia upazila, died on the spot, said police.
The injured were admitted to different hospitals.
Police seized the truck but the driver managed to flee.
In Thakurgaon, a youth was killed and 17 others were injured when a Thakurgaon-bound BRTC bus collided head-on with a truck on Panchagarh-Dhaka highway in Salondor village of Sadar upazila yesterday.
Ariful Islam, 28, from Darajgaon village, who was in the bus, died instantly. Among the injured, 16 were the bus passengers while the other was the trucker.
Firefighters rushed the injured to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital. Later, four were transferred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital as their condition deteriorated.
In Patuakhali, a motorcyclist was killed and his co-rider injured as their bike hit a truck on Patuakhali-Kuakata road at Pakkhia Bazar in Sadar upazila yesterday, said police.
The deceased -- Saiful Islam, 27 -- was from Boramullah village in Galachipa upazila.
Injured Almas Molla, 30, from the same village, was undergoing treatment at Patuakhali General Hospital.
In Gopalganj, a man was killed when a pickup truck collided with a truck on Dhaka-Khulna highway in Ponchaboti area of Kashiani upazila yesterday.
The deceased -- AR Rahman, 50, from Mollahat in Bagerhat, who was in the pickup truck -- died on the spot, said police.
