Vinicius makes the difference for Solari's Real
Santiago Solari tasted victory in his first La Liga match in charge of Real Madrid but he had the 18-year-old Vinicius Junior to thank for their 2-0 win over Real Valladolid on Saturday.
Solari threw Vinicius on with the score goalless and tension building at the Santiago Bernabeu but the teenage striker delivered, before Sergio Ramos' late penalty gave the scoreline a deceptively comfortable look.
The opener in the 83rd minute was an own-goal, deflected off Kiko Olivas, but prompted by Vinicius' weaving run and shot, the kind of exuberance Madrid's toothless attack has been so bereft of in recent weeks.
Vinicius celebrated by running over to the bench and hugging Solari. He knows the youngster better than anyone at the club, having managed him with Castilla this season. --Afp
Rashford's late winner caps fightback
Marcus Rashford's dramatic late winner capped Manchester United's fightback as they maintained their recent revival with a 2-1 win against Bournemouth on Saturday.
Rashford's close-range finish came after Anthony Martial's effort had cancelled out Callum Wilson's early opener for Bournemouth at Dean Court.
It was United's third victory in their last four Premier League games.
"I think by the end of December, which is the end of the first half of the Premier League, I think we are not going to be in the position we are now. We are going to be in a better position," Mourinho said. --Afp
Bolt not giving up hope on football career
Superstar sprinter Usain Bolt is adamant he can become a professional footballer despite his trial with an Australian club ending, insisting Saturday: "I still have it".
"It's sad that it didn't work out," the Jamaican 100m and 200m world record holder told Melbourne's Herald Sun newspaper at the Derby Day horse races in Melbourne, where he arrived in a suit, sunglasses and with a gold-handled cane.
"But we parted on good terms, and that's a good thing.
"I had a great experience with them. The guys were great -- we just couldn't work out things with the contract, but hopefully I get another chance with another team." --Afp
UEFA, PSG, Man City targeted in Football Leaks revelations
UEFA helped Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City get around their own Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules, according to a Football Leaks investigation published on Friday.
According to the investigation of "more than 70 million documents" analysed "over eight months by 80 journalists" from members of European Investigative Collaborations (EIC), UEFA "knowingly helped the clubs to cover up their own irregularities for 'political reasons'" under the leadership of Michel Platini and Gianni Infantino.
Both clubs, owned and bankrolled by wealth from Qatar and Abu Dhabi respectively, have avoided the most severe FFP punishment of being excluded from the UEFA Champions League. --Afp
PSG break successive win record
French champions Paris St Germain beat Lille 2-1 in Ligue 1 on Friday to break the record for the best start to a season in Europe's top five leagues with their 12th successive win.
France forward Kylian Mbappe and Brazilian Neymar scored the goals as PSG surpassed the 11 victories Tottenham Hotspur notched up to begin the 1960-61 English top flight campaign.
The result left leaders PSG on 36 points, 11 ahead of closest challengers Lille. --Reuters
