Woman strangled for dowry

A woman was killed allegedly by her husband for dowry at Moheshpur Kuniapara village in Ishwarganj upazila yesterday.

The deceased was Murshida Begum, 25, wife of Johirul Islam of the village, also mother of three-year-old boy.

Badrul Alam Khan, officer-in-charge of Ishwarganj Police Station, said Johirul married Murshida, daughter of Abdul Motalib of Kumuriarchar village, five years ago.

Johirul often tortured Murshida for dowry after their marriage, said the OC.

Johirul strangled Murshida following an altercation over the issue yesterday morning, and fled the scene, he said.
