Road accidents kill 5

At least five persons were killed and seven injured in road accidents across the country yesterday.

In Chittagong, Rafik Ahmed, 70, and Md Saikat, 19, were killed in separate road accidents at Lohagara upazila, police said.

Pedestrian Rafik Ahmed died after being hit by a truck in front of Baro Awlia College in the upazila. The body was handed over to Lohagara Highway police.

In another incident, Md Saikat, a CNG run auto-rickshaw driver was killed in a head-on collision with a truck at Charamba road area in the upazila, reports our correspondent.

In Faridpur, service-holder Sohel Rana, 33, was killed in Krisnapur area on Gaolando-Tarail road after a truck ran over an easy-bike, injuring him critically, witnesses said.

He was rushed to a local hospital where the on duty doctors declared him dead.

In Gopalganj, rickshaw-van driver Nalu Mollah, 55, was killed after his vehicle overturned on the road in Radhagonj area under Kotalipara upazila, reports our correspondent.

Nalu succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.

Meanwhile at Barisal, an unidentified man aged around 40, died and seven others were injured after a coverend van and a pickup van collided head on in Pangsha area under Dhaka-Barisal highway in the city, police said.

The victim died on the spot and the seven injured were taken to local hospital for treatment.

No further details could be known immediately.
