HC summons two IOs
The High Court yesterday summoned the investigation officers of two separate militancy cases to appear before it on May 30 for explaining delay in completing probes and status of the cases.
The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim gave the order during hearing the bail petitions of two accused in the cases.
Deputy Attorney General AKM Amin Uddin Manik told The Daily Star that seven people were killed in an incident of bomb explosion at a militant den in Darus Salam area of Mirpur on September 5 last year.
Police filed a case with Darus Salam Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act, 2009 and arrested Nazrul Islam Shamim, an alleged militant, he said.
Another case was filed with Banani Police Station under the act after police recovered militancy-related books on July 30 last year from a house at Banani, said DAG Amin Uddin.
Police also arrested alleged militant Riasat Elahi Chowdhury, he added.
During hearing the bail petitions filed by Nazrul and Riasat yesterday, the HC judges found that the investigation into the cases filed against them were not completed.
The probes were supposed to be finished within 180 days after the cases were filed, the DAG added.
