Opening account with arrest of cop

Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) earlier had four police stations only. On Thursday, the first day of March, RMP started operating with a total of 12 police stations, expanding its horizon on an area of 900 square kilometres.

Kasiadanga Police Station is one of such newly-formed police stations.

Interestingly, the first accused of the police station is a drug-addict policeman, who was arrested along with two others for taking drugs on that day. On another note, the policeman was suspended for another drug-related incident last year and an investigation was going on against him.

A team of the police station found four youths were taking contraband yaba pills at Nogorpara Primary School field at 7:30pm that day. The police patrol team started chasing them and managed to arrest three of them, said police.

One of the arrestees turned out to be Nazim Uddin, 26, a police constable of Rajshahi District Police Lines, said Rabiul Islam, officer-in-charge of Kasiadanga Police Station.

The three admitted that they were taking yaba pills, he said.

Police produced Nazim and two other locals -- Sujon Ali, 25, and Torham Ali, 28 -- before a court on Friday accusing them in a case under the RMP act for taking the banned drug.

“We didn't spare a policeman. It is our message that we will not tolerate anyone involved with illegal drug peddling or use,” said the OC.

Nazim was suspended since his arrest by Border Guard Bangladesh last year for taking phensidyl. He was closed to the district police lines and an investigation was going on against him in that incident, said the OC.
