3 ‘female members of JMB’ held
Police claimed to have arrested three female members of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) from Kalihati upazila of Tangail yesterday.
The arrestees were identified as Jannati alias Jemy, 18, Sajida Akter, 22, and Rozina Begum, 30. Rozina was arrested along with her two children and Jannati with one, our Tangail correspondent reports quoting police.
Acting on a tip-off, a police team conducted a drive at a house near the rail gate at Jokarchar in Kalihati upazila and arrested the trio, said Mohammad Akheruzzaman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kalihati Police Station.
The law enforcers also seized two machetes, a knife, a mobile phone containing videos of slaughtering techniques and a script of bomb-making technique from the house, he said.
Women, their husbands are JMB’s “suicide squad members”
The OC also said the husbands of all the three are also members of the suicide squad of JMB.
They are: Jannati’s husband Abu Sayeed alias Sabuj, Sajida’s husband Nazrul alias Baik Nazrul alias Parvez alias Hasan, 29, and Rozina’s husband Moksedul Islam alias Mozammel alias Harez, 35.
However, police could not arrest the husbands.
Sub-inspector (SI) Mohammad Kutubuddin of Kalihati Police Station filed a case against the women and their husbands with the police station under Terrorism Control Act.
The couples, members of the military wing of JMB, rented the house about a month ago for carrying out subversive activities in the area or adjacent areas, sources in detective police said.
Sent to jail
Meanwhile, police produced the three women before the Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Tangail last afternoon seeking three day-remand for each, said Anwar Hossain, court inspector.
Judge Anjan Kanti Das, however, ordered to send them to jail. The court also fixed to hold the hearing of the remand prayer after Eid vacation, the court inspector added.
