Illegal Travel To Malaysia

37 detained in Cox's Bazar

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members yesterday detained 24 Bangladeshis in Teknaf upazila of the district while they were trying to go to Malaysia illegally.
A team of 42 BGB Battalion rounded them up from different points of Shahpari Island under the upazila at around 5:00am while preparing to leave for Malaysia by sea, said Major Shafiqur Rahman, acting commander of the battalion.
Eight of the detainees hailed from Comilla, seven from Narsingdi, four from Cox's Bazar two from Rajshahi, two others from Faridpur and one from Barguna districts.
On Saturday night, members of Bangladesh Coastguard detained 13 others from Teknaf.
Acting on a tip-off, a Coastguard team from Teknaf east zone raided the bazaar at about 11:45pm and arrested the Bangladeshis who gathered there to go to Malaysia illegally by sea route.
The arrestees are Md Sirajul Islam, 50, son of late Fazlur Rahman, Md Gazi Islam, 25, son of Shahidul Islam of Jhikargachha in Jessore; Abdullah, 18, son of Abul Hossain, Md Ilias, 26, son of Khalil Miah, Md Ali Hossain, 25, son of Abdul Quader, Md Nazrul Islam, 18, son of Md Mustafa of Banchharampur in Brahmanbaria; Md Imam Hossain, 26, son of Nurul Haque of Patuakhali; Md Yeasin Ahmed, 20, son of Ismail Miah, Bachchu Miah, 35, son of Abdus Salam, Md Afzal Miah, 22, son of Lal Miah, Md Jasim Uddin, 31, Rafiqul Islam, 18, sons of Afaz Uddin, and Md Keramat Ali, 25, son of Md Manik of Araihazar in Narayanganj.
