Why You Should Study at DHAKA UNIVERSITY
Approximately 16 years of school life finally brings you to an end of the monotonous memory grinding work. However, then emerges the challenge of applying what you have learnt. Doors open to “university life” -- more important than any other phase of your student life. University education channels students into specific areas of higher studies and prepares them to meet the challenges of the competitive real world.
In Bangladesh, the number of students opting for international curriculum is increasing every year. In most cases, youngsters studying under international curriculum are more likely to opt for going abroad or enrolling at private universities here for pursuing higher education, instead of seeking admission in the public universities.
One might ask: Why choose a public university?
The answer is simple: a number of public universities are still considered the most prestigious educational institutions in our country and throughout history they have served as the backbone of our education system. Moreover, in a situation when majority of the students, studying under national curriculum, flock to get admission in their dream universities (public universities), why are the English medium students taking the backseat?
Dhaka University (DU), known as “Oxford of the East”, has been grooming nation-builders for nearly a hundred years. The pride and prestige of this university are still upheld by many. It is believed that English medium students avoid DU because of political chaos and violence. However, Institute of Business Administration (IBA) is immensely popular among the ambitious youngsters.
Session jam is another accusation which now stands invalid; in most of the departments exams take place in due time. Apart from IBA, other popular destinations include Faculty of Business Studies, Economics and Development Studies.
Another common misconception about DU among English medium students is their eligibility in the fiercely competitive admissions process. Some O and A level students are not aware that admission tests are taken in English. Also, DU offers a diverse environment where students from all corners of the country come together. It offers all required facilities and technologies expected from a modern educational institution. In addition to education, DU offers a wide range of extracurricular activities.
It is important to make the public universities accessible and attractive to all students and clear up any misconception.
BridgeWee has taken up an initiative to bring about a change and create opportunities for English medium students who want to study at DU. It started operating in the year 2009 and every year the success rate is growing remarkably.
Ultimately it's up to students to decide their higher studies destination. The decision is in their hands if the top university of the country can do it for them, instead of one abroad.
