Now he does not beg
JHENIDAH, Jan 23: The blind man used to beg. But now he works. He sells hair combs, wallets, pens, chocolates and chewing gums in buses in Jhenidah-Kushtia, Jhenidah-Magura and Jhnenidah-Chua-danaga routes to earn his living.
" Now I don't beg because I want to live with dignity", said Rezaul Islam, 40, who hails from village Garaganj under Shailakupa thana of Jhenidah district.
Rezaul Islam became blind at the age of ten. Before he was blind he had been suffering from typhoid.
"A few years back I used to live on people's charity, but now I am a working man. This really a great feeling", the beaming hawker said.
Initially Reazaul earned between Taka 30 and Taka 40, but now he earns Taka 80 to Taka 110 a day. He maintains his family of four members quite decently. He has married his one daughter off.
Disabled people can also contribute to their families if they really want, said Rezaul Islam.
