Language Movement activist Nadera passes away

Nadera Begum, a pioneering activist of the Language Movement and former English teacher of Dhaka University, passed away early yesterday at her residence in the capital's Uttara due to old age complications, says a press release.
She was 84.
Nadera Begum, widow of former finance secretary and auditor general Gholam Kibria, is survived by two sons and a daughter. She was buried in Uttara Sector 4 Graveyard.
Nadera Begum joined the Language Movement in 1948, when she was a student of Dhaka University. She was sent to jail for her role in the movement in 1949 and was freed in 1951.
Nadera had joined the Language Movement, inspired by her second brother Shaheed Munier Chowdhury. She was the third of the 14 children of Afia Begum and Abdul Halim Chowdhury.
