Drive to demolish illegal structures

Patuakhali district administration yesterday started drive to remove illegal structures from the bank of Lawkhali River flowing by the town, as per directives issued by the High Court.
Executive Magistrate Asifur Rahman accompanied by police and Rab led the operation that started at about 10:00am.
There is plan to remove about 2,000 illegal structures on about four kilometres area of the riverbank from the ferry terminal to Jainkathi via the launch terminal, said sources of the district administration.
Following a writ petition filed by Khondaker Habibur Rahman of Kathpatti area in Patuakhali town, the High Court on May 20 this year issued an order to the district administration to remove illegal structures on the riverbank, said Amitav Sarker, deputy commissioner of Patuakhali.
