Derailment halts Dhaka-Ctg-Sylhet rail link

Rail communications of Chittagong with Dhaka and Sylhet remain suspended since morning following derailment of a freight train in Akhaura upazila of Brahmanbaria.
Six compartments of a goods-laden train veered of the tracks in between Akhaura Railway Junction and Gangasagor Railway Station around 8:15am, reports our Brahmanbaria correspondent quoting Md Abdul Motalib, superintendent of Akhaura junction.
The derailment cut off rail links of Chittagong with Dhaka and Sylhet and Dhaka with Chandpur and Noakhali, said the superintendent.
A Dhaka-bound train 'Upakul Express' from Chittagong got stuck at Kasba Railway Station while Chittagong-bound 'Mahanagar Express' from Dhaka at Akhaura Railway Junction of Brahmanbaria following the derailment.
A relief train has already reached the spot and started salvage operation, the railway official said.
The train service may resume after 2:00pm, he added.
