Border Guard Bangladesh and Indian Border Security Force in a meeting yesterday agreed to raise regional coordination along Sylhet-Meghalaya border to reduce unwanted incidents like firing on people and stop border crimes.
Abul Bashar Md Khairul Hasnat, sector commander of BGB, led the 5-men BGB team while the other party was led by Yadvendra Sinha, BSF deputy director general of Shilling sector.
They held the meeting at the BGB Border Conference Centre near Tamabil border.
When the Bangladeshi officials raised the issue of attacking and firing on innocent Bangladeshis, BSF assured of taking immediate steps to stop such unwanted incidents.
A joint verification of the borders would be held in October this year as the Indians are preparing to finish fencing on their side, said Maj Debashish Narayan Paul, additional director of BGB Battalion-5.
