Chattogram DC removed from returning officer’s duty for “biased behaviour”
The Election Commission (EC) has decided to remove Deputy Commissioner (DC) Md Mominur Rahman, returning officer of Chattogram Zila Parishad elections, from his duty of election.
Election Commissioner Rasheda Sultana told this to reporters while replying to a query at her office in the capital's Agargaon area today (September 18, 2022).
She also said that punitive action will be taken against him after investigation.
The decision was taken against the DC for his "biased behaviour" as returning officer, said Rasheda Sultana.
Mominur Rahman on Thursday (September 15, 2022) at his office sought blessings from all for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina praying for her return to power. BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami should pray for this, he said. He also prayed for the victory of Awami League nominated chairman candidate of Chattogram zila parishad election.
Election Commissioner Rasheda said, "We have decided to remove Mominur from the post of returning officer."
"It is difficult to take any other action against him immediately, the election commissioner said adding that the matter needs further investigation.
"The only thing to do at the moment is to remove him. We'll see the next one later. The job now is to remove him and appoint another capable person," she added.
